On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Chad as you celebrate 50 years of independence on January 11. I wish you a safe and joyous celebration.
In this 50th year of independence, Chad is on the path toward peace and stability. We applaud the positive steps you have taken to reconcile internal differences and resolve disputes with neighbors, including signing a peace accord with Sudan this past year. We look forward to continued peace and stability and to successful elections in the coming months.
The Republic of Chad and the United States have a long history of friendship and cooperation. We believe in your promise and we are committed to your future. As you celebrate 50 years of independence, know that we will continue to be your partner for peace and prosperity.
