On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to wish Grand Duke Henri a happy birthday and send best wishes to the people of Luxembourg as you celebrate your Independence Day this June 23. This is an opportunity to honor Luxembourg’s rich history and the many contributions of the Luxembourg people to the world.
Luxembourg has demonstrated a tireless commitment to international institutions. As a founding member of NATO, the United Nations, and the European Union, Luxembourg is a model for global cooperation. And our two countries share a long history of partnership, promoting peace and prosperity around the globe. We continue this work today fighting for human rights, promoting democracy and safeguarding freedoms.
As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States is committed to this important relationship, and we stand with all Luxembourgers around the world as a partner and friend.
