On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Sao Tome and Principe on your 36th anniversary of independence this July 12.
Our two countries share a commitment to democracy and good governance. We have partnered together on vital economic programs such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation threshold program that concluded this year. Through this program, Sao Tome and Principe has improved its tax and customs administration and enforcement and streamlined its business registration procedures -- steps that will further strengthen your economy.
As you celebrate your National Day with family and friends, know that the United States stands with you and we wish all Sao Tomeans continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.
