On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Belgium as you celebrate your national day this July 21.
The historic friendship and enduring alliance between our two countries is built on shared values and mutual interests. Belgium’s commitment to democracy and the ideals of liberty and equality has positively influenced countries around the world. As a founding member of NATO and the European Union, Belgium has played an integral role in the institutions that define U.S. relations with Europe.
As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States is committed to this relationship. I look forward to a future of continued friendship and partnership and wish all Belgians a happy National Day.
