On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Benin on your 51st anniversary of independence this August 1.
The United States and Benin enjoy a strong relationship based on a shared commitment to democracy, peace, and rule of law. Benin is a shining example of a country that is dedicated to preserving its democratic traditions and encouraging these values in the region. Your achievements as a peaceful, democratic country with a strong commitment to human rights and education will improve the quality of life for all Beninese people now and in the years to come.
As you celebrate your National Day with family and friends, know that the United States stands with you. We deeply value this relationship and will continue to look for ways to work together in the years to come.
