On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Singapore as you celebrate your National Day this August 9.
The United States values our close partnership with Singapore. Our shared interests have led to regional and global cooperation on a range of security and economic issues and we look forward to continuing to look for ways to partner together in the years to come. We have joined together to combat terrorism in the region and throughout the world, reduced piracy in the Gulf of Aden, and increased our two-way trade. These are just a few of our joint efforts that improve the security and prosperity of both our countries.
As you celebrate this special day with family and friends, I send my deepest congratulations to all Singaporean people everywhere for continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.
