On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of the Gabonese Republic as you celebrate 51 years of independence this August 17.
Your government has demonstrated a strong commitment to transparency and efficiency. Your history as a leader in environmental stewardship is setting an example for the region, and the United States is committed to working with you as you continue to curb the effects of global warming, fight wildlife poaching, promote sustainable forest management and protect your country’s rich biodiversity. The United States looks forward to building on our history of friendship and cooperation as we work toward common goals in the region and around the world.
With legislative elections and the African Cup of Nations coming this year, this is an exciting time of challenge and opportunity for the people of Gabon. Congratulations on this special day and best wishes for continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.
