On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to congratulate the people of the Czech Republic as you celebrate the anniversary of your independence this October 28. Our two countries are working to promote democracy around the world. The Czech Republic has provided invaluable support to the mission in Afghanistan, helping the Afghan people as they rebuild their country and take responsibility for their own security. Czechs are applying their own experience with democratic transition to foster institution building and strengthen civil society in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
On this special day, I send my deepest congratulations to all Czechs and look forward to finding new ways to strengthening this already close relationship as we continue to promote our shared values around the world.
