On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Suriname on the 36th anniversary of your independence this November 25.
Suriname is a valued partner as we work to advance key priorities for both our countries. Together we are promoting democracy and standing up for human rights. Our partnership through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative is enhancing the security and prosperity of the region, and through our youth empowerment initiatives we are building a stronger and brighter future for all our people.
As you gather to enjoy festivals and celebrate your rich history, I wish all Surinamese a peaceful holiday celebration and a prosperous year.
