On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Finland on your Independence Day this December 6.
Finland and the United States have enjoyed an enduring partnership and friendship. Many Americans today trace their origins to Finland, celebrating our shared heritage.
The contributions by the Finnish people to the advancement of technology and research, promotion of international economic development and the defense of human rights and peace has made our world a better place. We are especially pleased to stand with Finland as we work for a more secure, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan.
We look forward to broadening and deepening the already strong connection between our two countries as we work together to solve the most pressing global challenges. Happy Independence Day and best wishes for a year of peace and prosperity.
