On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of the Dominican Republic as you celebrate the 168th anniversary of your independence this February 27.
The United States and the Dominican Republic share a lasting friendship based on strong economic, cultural, and historic ties. We are working together through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative to confront common challenges, advance regional security and promote justice. Together, we are promoting trade and investment through our partnership in the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement. I commend the Dominican Republic for hosting the Pathways to Prosperity Ministerial last October, which I was pleased to attend with leaders from around the region to discuss ways to promote broader economic opportunities and social inclusion.
As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States stands with you. Best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
