On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of the Republic of the Marshall Islands on the 33rd anniversary of your nation’s independence this May 1.
The United States and the Republic of the Marshall Islands enjoy a warm partnership based on mutual respect and mutual interest. Together, we are working, including through our Compact of Free Association, to strengthen economic development, improve regional security, combat climate change, and allow more people the opportunity to realize their human rights and fundamental freedoms. We are grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of your citizens serving in the United States Armed Forces, as we work together promoting peace around the world. Congratulations and best wishes for continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.
