On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of the Kingdom of Tonga on the 42nd anniversary of your independence this June 4. This special occasion is a chance to celebrate Tonga’s rich history and culture.
For years, Tonga has been a champion of security and peace around the world. The strong history of cooperation between our two countries will continue to be instrumental as we work to improve maritime security, expand access to renewable energy, and protect the environment. And the United States is committed to supporting democratic progress in Tonga and a better future for all Tongans.
As you celebrate this special day with family, friends, and loved ones, know that the United States stands with you. Congratulations and best wishes for peace and prosperity in the year to come.
