On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of the Solomon Islands on the 34th anniversary of your independence this July 7.
Our two countries have shared a long history of friendship and cooperation since World War II when we fought side by side. In the decades since, we have continued to work together to build a stronger Pacific region and tackle issues around the world. Together we are promoting peace, reinforcing the tenets of democracy and building regional security and respect among nations. These issues of common concern will continue to strengthen our relationship in the years to come.
As you celebrate this special day with family, friends and loved ones, know that the United States stands with you as a partner and friend. We are committed to your future and to expanding the ties that bind our nations.
