On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Hungary as you celebrate Saint Stephen’s Day this August 20th.
Saint Stephen’s Day marks the foundation of the Hungarian state over 1000 years ago. Since its foundation, Hungary has been at the crossroads of European history, and is now a respected member of the transatlantic community and a valued NATO partner. The United States and Hungary are working together to ensure greater stability in Afghanistan and elsewhere, and Hungary is at the forefront of countries seeking to deepen the transatlantic alliance within Europe. The United States looks forward to continuing this work with our Hungarian friends on our common goals in Europe and beyond.
Congratulations and best wishes to all Hungarians for continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.
