On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Slovakia as you celebrate the 20th anniversary of your constitution this September 1.
For years, Slovakia has been a close NATO Ally and partner. From working together to help build a secure future for the people of Afghanistan, to our common efforts in the Community of Democracies, our relationship benefits from our mutual commitment to freedom and human rights. We are also grateful to Slovakia for sharing its experience in democratic transition with emerging democracies around the world, and its work as a role model for other countries on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration.
As you gather for festivities around the country, know that the United States is a partner and friend. Best wishes for continued peace and prosperity in the year to come.
