In Dakar, Senegal she participated in the 2005 U.S.-Sub-Saharan Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum being held under the auspices of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). The African Growth and Opportunity Act is a key pillar of the Bush Administration’s policy to spur economic development, alleviate poverty, and encourage trade between the United States and sub-Saharan countries.

In Sudan, the Secretary emphasized U.S. support for implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and urged further steps to resolve the crisis in Darfur. [photo gallery]

The Secretary’s travel to Israel and the Palestinian Territories continued U.S. efforts to spur the parties toward cooperation as part of the disengagement from Gaza and parts of the West Bank. [photo gallery]
