Chemical Weapons Convention

The goal of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) is to improve the security of all countries by eliminating the threat from poison gas weapons. The CWC bans development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons and requires destruction of existing stocks and production facilities. Its entry into force on 29 April 1997 was a major step forward in the international community's drive to eliminate the threat from these weapons of mass destruction.
