United States Assistance for Small Arms and Light Weapons (SA/LW) Destruction Projects

Albania Nearly 100,000 SA/LW destroyed in partnership with Germany and Norway. Also funded refurbishment of a facility for future destruction projects. Destroyed 1,804,907 pieces of the most unstable Albanian ammunition until PfP project is online. Method of destruction: oxy-acetylene torch cutting.
Albania U.S. contribution to Canada-led PfP Trust Fund project to destroy 5,000* tons of SA/LW ammunition. This project is expected to begin in 2003.
Angola Provided Angolan Armed Forces with computers and other equipment to destroy over 40,000* SA/LW collected from demobilized UNITA forces.
Bulgaria Destruction of 77,516 weapons and 5,922,649 pieces of ammunition. The destruction of an additional 20,235* SA/LW and 791,470* pieces of ammunition is currently underway. Method of destruction:
FRY 51,068 SA/LW destroyed by the FRY military.
Guinea Contractor, will destroy 15,000* SA/LW in Guinea.
Lesotho 3,843 SA/LW were destroyed in cooperation with the South African army.
Mozambique Funds provided for vehicles and equipment used to transport and destroy 11,154* SA/LW and 58,489* pieces of ammunition.
Philippines Contractor has destroyed 57,826 SA/LW.
Romania 116,038 of 194,800* SA/LW and 36,692,747 of 63,681,524 * pieces of ammunition have been destroyed. The Netherlands, Norway, and UK are planning to join U.S.
Senegal 8,000 SA/LW have been destroyed by the Senegalese military with contractor support.

*indicates projected amount of SA/LW or ammunition to be destroyed.
