Ralph Frank
U.S. Ambassador to Nepal
Biography
Ralph Frank was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Nepal on September 15, 1997. He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor.
Ambassador Frank served overseas in Yugoslavia as Assistant General Services Officer 1975-77), in Indonesia as Administrative Officer (1977-1979, in Poland as Administrative Counselor (1983-1986, and in Nepal as Administrative Counselor (1986-1988).
He also held numerous positions in the Department of State in Washington including -- Special Assistant in the Middle East Bureau (1979-1981), Assignments Officer for the East Asian Bureau (1981-1983, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (1990-1992), Executive director of the Bureau of Near East and South Asian Affairs (1993-1996), Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Administration (1996) and Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Personnel (1996-1997).
Ambassador Frank received a BA in 1968 and an MBA in 1973 from the University of Washington. In the interim, he was an officer in the U.S. Submarine Service. He is married to Susan Gundersen and they have two children.
