Portrait of Thomas Jefferson This bust portrait of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) is by Charles Willson Peale when Thomas Jefferson was Secretary of State in Washington's Cabinet (1790-1793). Mr. Jefferson is shown with shoulders full front and head turned toward subject's right. He appears to be of middle age with reddish-brown, gray hair. He is wearing a teal-blue coat with brass buttons, a buff waistcoast and a white shirt with stock and jabot. This portrait is most likely a replica of Peale's portrait of Jefferson painted in 1791 which is currently at Independence National Historical Park.
