The The Antwerp International School is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from preschool through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1967. The school year comprises 3 trimesters extending from late August to late June.

Organization: The School is governed by a Board of Directors.

Curriculum: The curriculum is a blend of U.S. and British college-preparatory programs and similar to suburban public schools. The International Baccalaureate program is also offered. Instruction is in English. Dutch, French, Spanish and German are taught as foreign languages. Extracurricular activities include athletics, a European study tour, drama, music, art, computer education, various clubs, yearbook, and school newspaper. Instruction in English-as-a-Second-Language is offered. The School's testing program includes the PSAT/NMSQT and the SAT. The School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the European Council of International Schools.

Faculty: There are 63 full-time-equivalent faculty members in the 2000-2001 school year, including 23 U.S. citizens, 11 host-country nationals, and 29 third-country nationals.

Enrollment: Enrollment at the opening of the 2000-2001 school year was 588 (PS-grade 5: 262; grades 6-8: 136; and grades 9-12: 190). Of the total, 114 were U.S. citizens, 56 were host-country nationals, and 418 were third-country nationals.

Facilities: The School is situated on an 8-acre wooded estate. The campus includes a large converted mansion which houses the administration offices, 2 English-as-a-Second-Language rooms, and one learning disability room; 2 buildings which accommodate the elementary school classrooms and some middle and high school classrooms; a complex which houses the kitchen and cafeteria, the main gymnasium area, dressing rooms, 3 science laboratories, and math classes; and 1 building which houses a 340-seat theater, music and art studios, and 4 high school classrooms. The library and computer rooms are positioned between the elementary, middle and high school buildings. There is a separate Early Childhood Center with 6 portable classrooms, a small multipurpose room, and a large playground. Local swimming pools and sports fields are used for athletic activities.

Finances: In the 2000-2001 school year, annual tuition rates are as follows: PS: $3,447; PK: $4,702; Kdg.: $10,255; grades 1-5: $11,277; grades 6-8: $12,680; and grades 9-12: $13,426. The School also charges an application fee of $532 and a transportation fee of $1,617. These fees are payable in Belgian francs. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
