2000-2001 The Munich International School is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1966. The school year comprises 3 trimesters, extending from late August to late June. Organization: The School is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors, elected for 3-year terms by the Association of the Munich International School, e.V., the sponsors of the School. Membership in the Association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the School. The School is registered in Germany as a non-profit, tax-exempt institution and has been designated as tax-exempt under Section 501 (c) (3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Curriculum: The instructional program conforms to the frameworks of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IBPYP), the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for entrance into colleges and universities in several countries. Instruction is in English. German and French are taught as foreign languages. The School also offers courses leading to the IGCSE and either to the International Baccalaureate Diploma or to a General High School Diploma. There is no religious instruction. Some remedial education services are offered in grades K-8. The School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the European Council of International Schools. Faculty: There are 116 full-time and 29 part-time staff members in the 2000-2001 school year, including 54 U.S. citizens, 46 British citizens, 23 host-country nationals and 22 citizens representing 5 other nationalities. Faculty members are experienced educators, and most hold advanced degrees. Enrollment: Enrollment at the opening of the 2000-2001 school year was 1,050 (PK-grade 12). Of the total, 250 were U.S. citizens, 368 were host-country nationals, and 432 were third-country nationals. Of the U.S. enrollment, 55 were dependents of U.S. government direct-hire or contract employees, 150 of U.S. business or foundation employees, and 45 of other private U.S. citizens. Facilities: The School is housed in 5 buildings containing 58 classrooms, 2 libraries, 3 auditoriums, and a gymnasium. Finances: In the 2000-2001 school year, all the School's operating income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK-grade 5: $8,480; grades 6-8: $9,824; and grades 9-12: $10,529. The School also charges a capital levy and busing fees. These fees are payable in German marks. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.) This Fact Sheet is intended to provide general information.
