2000-2001

The International School of Peshawar is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 8 and supervised correspondence study for the high school grades for all expatriate nationalities. The School was founded in 1987. The school year comprises four 9-week periods, extending from early September to early June.

Organization: The School is governed by a 5-member School Board, elected annually from an association of parents and legal guardians of children enrolled in the School. The School's principal sits as a nonvoting member. The Board includes 1 member designated by the U.S. Consul in Peshawar. The School is not incorporated in the United States.

Curriculum: The curriculum is similar to that offered in U.S. general academic, public schools. The small class sizes allow for individualized instruction as necessary while maintaining the give-and-take atmosphere of interaction that would be found in a single-grade classroom. Instruction is in English. Courses of instruction include English-as-a-Second-Language, physical education, art, music, library, host nation studies, and all standard academic subjects.

Faculty: There are 8 full-time and 8 part-time faculty members in the 2000-2001 school year, including 2 U.S. citizens, 3 host-country nationals, and 11 third-country nationals.

Enrollment: Enrollment at the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year was 54 (PK-grade 8). Of the total, 8 were U.S. citizens, and 46 third-country nationals.

Facilities: Eight classrooms, an administrative office, an library, a music room, computer laboratory, and kitchen facilities are housed in 2 freestanding school buildings on a 2-acre campus. The School has a fully equipped playground, a playing field, a basketball court, volleyball courts, and a parking area.

Finances: In the 2000-2001 school year, 98 percent of the School's income derives from tuition and registration fees. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK-Kdg: $4,300-$4,600; and G\rades l-8: $7,000. There is a registration fee of $500 for new students. These fees are payable only in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
