2000-2001

The Tirana International School is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from kindergarten through grade 10 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1991. The school year comprises 3 trimesters extending from early September to mid-June.

Organization: The School is governed by the Board of Directors of Quality Schools International, the membership of which is formed as set forth in the Bylaws of Quality Schools International. An Advisory Board, composed of 6 members who reside in Tirana and are appointed jointly by the President of Quality Schools International and the Director of the Tirana International School, assists the School in its operation.

Curriculum: The School offers an outcomes-based educational program with a curriculum similar to that of U.S. public and private schools. Instruction, leading to individual mastery, takes advantage of small class sizes and the diverse educational backgrounds of the students. Instruction is in English. Non-English-speaking students are enrolled in an Intensive English Program. High school students may take courses through the University of Nebraska. These courses are administered by the School. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Faculty: There are 3 full-time faculty members in the 2000-2001 school year, including 2 U.S. citizens and 1 Irish national. There are also 5 full-time paraprofessional teaching assistants, all host-country nationals.

Enrollment: Enrollment at the opening of the 2000-2001 school year was 30 (grades K-10), including 2 U.S. citizens, 11 host-country nationals and 17 third-country nationals. Both U.S. students are dependents of private U.S. citizens.

Facilities: The School is located in converted residences inside a residential compound. The facilities are adequate for the current enrollment, and there is sufficient playground space for the students. Teachers live in nearby housing.

Finances: In the 2000-2001 school year, the School's income derives from regular day school tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: Kdg.: $8,500; and grades l-10: $11,000. The School also charges an annual capital fund fee of $1,600, or a capital fund deposit of $4,000, and a registration fee of $100. These fees are payable in U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
