Subject: Vessel Documentation and Certificates required by Nicaragua and Peru, October 6, 1993

The following coastal states require listed documentation for research vessels operating in their waters:

Nicaragua:

1) Registration Certificate
2) Load Line Certificate
3) Vessel's Exit Authorization (from previous port)
4) List of crew and other personnel embarked

Peru:

  1. Legalized copy of Navigation Patent
    2) Vessel Registration Certificate
    3) Construction Security Certificate
    4) Radiotelegraphic Certificate
    5) List of crew and scientists

The above documentation must be provided when seeking research clearance from the above coastal states.

All requests for foreign clearance should be made in compliance with appropriate NTRVO's and the "UNOLS Handbook for International Operations of U.S. Scientific Research Vessels". Please consult all appropriate NTRVO's and provide all required documentation when making requests.
