G-8 Economic Summit: The Summit of the Eight will be held in Cologne, Germany, from June 18 to June 20, 1999. Leaders of seven industrial countries -- Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States -- plus the President of the Commission of the European Union Commission, will attend the meetings. Starting with the 1994 Naples Summit, the G-7 and Russia have met as the P-8 after each G-7 Summit. The 1997 Denver Summit was a milestone, marking full Russian participation in all but financial and selected economic discussions; and the 1998 Birmingham Summit saw full Russian participation, giving birth to the G-8.
