Mandate
UNIKOM monitors the demilitarized zone between Iraq and Kuwait set up in the aftermath of the Gulf War.

UNIKOM demonstrates the international community's resolve to deter violations of the Iraq-Kuwait boundary. The operation plays an important role in monitoring Iraqi troop movements.
