Email Service for the Global Portion of the GDIN Initiative

A GDIN Service

of the Bureau of International Organizations, US Department of State.

Return to Home Page

This list server was created at the request of the Meeting of Disaster Experts in Washington, DC on July 16/17, 1998 -- and then revised according to discussions between various governments in October, 1999. It will allow users to send email to all other members of the system as a single group. In other words, instead of sending many email messages, you only now have to send one. The email address for this service is gdin@vita.org but you must first be listed on the server in order to use the service. There is no charge.

This service is open to any disaster professional or "expert" in one of the sciences related to the GDIN Initiative. A second, smaller list server may be set up soon by the Canadian government for those who are drafting documents. That server will also be linked through this page. Note: This service has been in operation since July, 1998; but was revised an simplified in December, 1999.

    1. Go to the following URL. Join GDIN Follow the instructions.
    2. If this process does not work, send an email to the system manager and ask to be listed on the system. Signup takes 24-48 hours.

One of the decisions of the Meeting of Disaster Experts was to engage NGO's as partners. Special Thanks to Richard Muffley and the Volunteers in Technical Assistance for providing space on the VITA server. VITA is one of the premier NGO's in the humanitarian relief, disaster and development.

Note: There is also a similar system for members of the USG Informatics Committee (but you have be in the USG or an invited guest.
