THE TAMPERE CONVENTION ON THE PROVISION OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESOURCES FOR DISASTER MITIGATION AND RELIEF OPERATIONS

Signatories

 

All governments are asked to sign the Tampere Convention on the Provision of Telecommunication Resources for Disaster Mitigation and Relief Operations.

 

  1. Thirty eight nations were authorized to sign on 18 June 1998 and thirty three did at the Intergovernmental Conference on Emergency Telecommunications in Tampere Finland; however, a number of signatures were not allowed. Here is the list of those who have signed as reported by the ITU as of 23 August 1999. Those that have already signed are: Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burundi, Chile, Congo, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Gabon, Germany, Ghana, Haiti, Italy, Jamaica, Kuwait, Lebanon, Liberia, Mali, Malta, Mauritania, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sudan, Switzerland, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
  2. The Convention was opened for signature at Tampere by all States Member of the United Nations or of the International Telecommunications union on 18 June, 1998, and thereafter at the headquarters of the United Nations Headquarters in new York from 22 June 1998 where it will remain open until 21 June 2003, in accordance with its article 12.
