Preparing To Go Overseas

Update Immunizations

Required and recommended immunizations for overseas travel can be obtained at the Immunization Clinic at Columbia Plaza. Immunizations can also be obtained at the clinics in the National Foreign Affairs Training Center and SA-44 (301 4th Street, SW; only Department of State employees). Be sure to allow time for spacing the immunizations, as a complete initial immunization series may require about 4 weeks. Children under 12 may be immunized by a family physician or pediatrician. Adults may obtain immunizations at other US Government facilities or, when necessary because of geographic considerations, from private physicians. If authorized, generally because of geographic constraints, the Department of State will reimburse the full cost of recommended immunizations performed by private physicians for adults and children. Note: These payments are made only for immunizations recommended for overseas service, such as yellow fever, and NOT for routine immunizations like polio.

CDC travel information is available on the Internet.
