The third annual meeting of the U.S.-Baltic Partnership Commission, established by the 1998 U.S.-Baltic Charter, was held June 7 in Tallinn, Estonia. The delegations of the United States, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, led by Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott, Estonian Foreign Minister Toomas Hendrik Ilves, State Secretary of the Latvian Foreign Ministry Maris Riekstins and Deputy Foreign Minister of Lithuania Vygaudas Ushackas held discussions on security, regional cooperation, and economic issues. The Partnership Commission reviewed the progress made by the bilateral military and economic working groups since the last meeting 1 year ago and expressed its satisfaction on positive developments. The heads of delegations signed a joint communique, which reviewed progress in U.S.-Baltic relations since last year's Partnership Commission meeting and and establishes priorities for the co-operation in future.
