THE U.S.-MEXICO BINATIONAL COMMISSION (BNC)
May 18, 2000

The 17th annual meeting of the U.S.-Mexico Binational Commission (BNC) was held at the Department of State on Thursday, May 18. The event, which alternates between Washington and Mexico City, was hosted this year by Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright. In addition to opening and closing plenaries, the Commission affords an opportunity for 15 working groups, often chaired at the cabinet level, to meet on the full range of issues in the bilateral relationship. This annual meeting was also the occasion for a bilateral meeting between Secretary Albright and Mexican Foreign Secretary Rosario Green Macias. More than 125 Mexican and at least 200 U.S. participants were expected at the day-long event.
