Our Mission

The Office of the Legal Adviser is organized into sections that roughly correspond with the Department of State's various bureaus. The Office of the Legal Adviser's regional bureaus oversee the U.S. embassies and consulates and coordinate U.S. foreign relations in their respective geographic areas. The Office of the Legal Adviser's functional bureaus have crosscutting, worldwide responsibilities for specific program areas.
