The Office of Policy and Public Outreach (PPO) works with other OES offices, regional bureaus within the State Department, and the interagency to coordinate U.S. engagement on environment, science, technology, and health (ESTH) priorities around the world.  PPO is also the public affairs and outreach lead for the Bureau, working with OES subject matter experts to design OES public communications and engagement strategies.

OES/PPO develops special projects, grant programs, international exchanges, and conferences to shape the Bureau’s engagement with other U.S. federal agencies, NGOs, the private sector, and directly with the public.  Examples includeZoohackathon — a weekend event for coders and conservationists to develop digital tools to fight wildlife trafficking and NASA’s GLOBE program — a worldwide program that brings together students, teachers, scientists and citizens to promote science and learning about the environment.
