Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Scott Busby and Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Rick Waters hosted a roundtable with five Hong Kong activists and experts today to underscore U.S. commitment to the rights and freedoms of Hong Kongers and to discuss the March 31 Hong Kong Policy Act Report, which outlines the continued erosion of Hong Kong’s autonomy.

The Hong Kong Policy Act Report reports numerous actions the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong governments have taken to degrade Hong Kong’s promised high degree of autonomy, guaranteed rights and freedoms, and eroding democratic institutions.  These include the unjust arrests and politically motivated prosecutions of opposition politicians, activists, and peaceful protesters under the National Security Law and other legislation.
