The American International School Dhaka (AISD) is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school was founded in 1972. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from August 18 to January 23 and from January 26 to June 11.

Organization: The school is governed by a 9-member School Board elected for 2-year terms. The board is comprised of parents or legal guardians of students enrolled in the school. The U.S. Ambassador appoints a nonvoting representative to the board. The school is not incorporated in the United States.

Curriculum: AISD provides a program based on American educational principles for an international community. The elementary school implements the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), which is an international curriculum framework that creates a relevant, engaging, challenging, and significant educational framework for all children. The middle school consists of grades 6-8 and aims to provide an age-appropriate, child-centered educational program in a safe and supportive environment. In the high school, students are challenged to complete a rigorous series of courses to meet AISD’s graduation requirements. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is available to qualified juniors and seniors, and all grade 11 and 12 students benefit from the IB Standard Level offerings. AISD is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the International Baccalaureate Organization.

Faculty: In the 2019-2020 school year, there are 78 faculty and administrative members. A superintendent, an assistant superintendent for business and finance, 3 principals, and director of facilities and operations make up the administrative team.

Enrollment: For the 2019-2020 school year, enrollment is 439.

Facilities: AISD occupies a 4.5-acre campus in a residential suburb of Dhaka. The campus facility consists of 78 general classrooms, 8 science laboratories, 2 design technology labs, 3 art studios, 2 music rooms, 2 drama rooms, a library/media center, 3 gymnasiums, a fitness center, a heated pool, a 400-seat theatre, a cafeteria, and office suites. Sports facilities include 3 playgrounds and an athletic field. AISD maintains a fleet of air-conditioned buses for all student transportation.

Finances: For the 2019-2020 school year, 98% of AISD’s income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PK3: $17,300; PK4: $20,300; K-grade 5: $30,200; grades 6-8: $33,200; and grades 9-12: $36,200. Additional fees are admission processing fee of $350; seat deposit fee for all grades levels of $3,000 (credited against the total fees); registration/capital fee for PK3: $3,000, PK4: $5,000, and K-12: $15,000; and an annual capital fee of $1,000 for K-12.
