The mission of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Language Services (LS) is to provide foreign language support to the U.S. federal government to further its foreign policy objectives.
Whether in high-level diplomatic settings, or facilitating professional exchange and assistance programs, an extensive roster of freelance contractors plays a vital role alongside our small cadre of staff interpreters and translators in support of this mission.
Freelance contractors play a vital role in our office’s mission of providing foreign language interpreting and translating services to U.S. government officials and in support of U.S. foreign exchange and assistance programs. Are you an Interpreter?
Interpreters Wanted: LS is accepting interpreter applications in all languages, particularly Scandinavian languages, Southeast Asian languages, Central Asian languages, and languages of the Indian Subcontinent.
Current needs include: Albanian, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Bulgarian, French, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Kazakh, Korean, Lao, Latvian, Malay, Mandarin, Mongolian, Polish, Portuguese, Rohingya, Romanian, Spanish, Tajik, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Urdu, Uzbek, and Vietnamese.

**Interpretation Pre-Screening During the NAJIT 2023 Conference**
During the NAJIT 2023 conference, would you like to sign up for a short interpretation pre-screening?
Sign up once you are ready to submit your resume and LS application in the NAJIT 2023 LS Applicant Form .
Participating in a recorded pre-screening will allow the Office of Language Services to move you along the testing process more quickly if you pass the pre-screening. Note: the language needs of the Office change regularly, so applicants are invited to test based on those needs.
