From July 23-29, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield will travel to Wellington, New Zealand, where she will join Secretary Blinken and attend the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to cheer on the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT). On the margins of the World Cup, Assistant Secretary Satterfield will participate in a variety of engagements with local youth, alumni of U.S. sports diplomacy exchanges, and key private-sector stakeholders of the U.S. and international sports community. She will also attend bilateral meetings with the Government of New Zealand.

The Assistant Secretary’s trip emphasizes the importance of the bilateral relationship between the United States and New Zealand, as well as the important role sports play in supporting broader U.S. foreign policy goals including increasing access to education, economic equity, and societal opportunity and inclusion worldwide.
