Blake Peterson's term ended on August 12, 2022.

Blake Peterson is the Acting Coordinator of the Digital Freedom Unit. She brings an extensive background working at the intersection of human rights, inclusion, and foreign policy to the Bureau of Cyber and Digital Policy Affairs.

Previously, Ms. Peterson served as the advisor on Internet governance in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs and as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the Secretary where she focused on integrating gender equity into national security policy and operations. Across these roles, she led multilateral diplomacy — including in the UN, G7, OECD, and other fora — as well as bilateral engagement to support partner governments in developing implementation frameworks for their human rights commitments.

As a Technology and Telecommunications Fellow in the United States Senate, she generated legislative proposals that blended digital technology, consumer protection, and civil rights issues.

Ms. Peterson holds an MA in Arabic and International Relations from the University of St. Andrews and an MSc. in Political Economy of Late Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
