Dan Negrea is the U.S. Department of State’s Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs (CBA) in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs. He leads the CBA office in advocating on behalf of U.S. business interests abroad and in promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and corporate responsibility. For one year before he assumed these duties, he was a member of the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff, with responsibility for international economic matters.
For three decades before that, Mr. Negrea was an investment banker and private equity investor in New York and Los Angeles. During this period, he worked with companies in almost every industry and raised over $15 billion in capital through a variety of debt and equity financial instruments, in public and private markets, both domestically and internationally, in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Mr. Negrea earned MBAs from Cornell University and the University of Bucharest. He is fluent in French, German, and Romanian, and has some knowledge of Spanish and Italian.
Mr. Negrea is a member of the Order of Malta, a Catholic charitable organization.
