Douglass Benning

Douglass Benning's term ended on February 1, 2023.

Douglass Benning is the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for CA. He previously served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Resources and the Executive Director of the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA). He served previously as a Senior Advisor in CA, and as Director of the State Department’s Operations Center. Prior to that, he was the Director of Domestic Operations in the Office of Visa Services. He has also worked as a Deputy Executive Secretary at the National Security Council, Deputy Director for the Watch in the Operations Center, and the Consul General in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. His other overseas postings include London, Prague, and Mexico City. Douglass has served as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs, as a Watch Officer in the Operations Center, and as a staff assistant in the CA Front Office. He is a graduate of Tulane University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
