Gonzalo Suarez is the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Security Policy in the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation at the Department of State.

In this capacity he oversees three offices in the ISN bureau (Counterproliferation Initiatives; Missile, Biological & Chemical Nonproliferation; and Conventional Arms Threat Reduction) and a Task Force dedicated to implementing Section 231 sanctions of the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

Before assuming the role of Acting DAS, Mr. Suarez was the Director of the Strategic Communications and Outreach Office in ISN. From 2014-2016 Mr. Suarez served as the Chief of Staff of the ISN bureau. Prior to this he served as Deputy Director and congressional affairs officer. Mr. Suarez worked in the private sector prior to joining the State Department.

Mr. Suarez earned a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Florida International University.
