Helaena White

Helaena White’s term ended on September 1, 2019.

Helaena White served as the State Department’s Spokesperson for South Asian Media, based in the London International Media Hub at the U.S. Embassy in London.  From 2015 to 2017, she was the spokesperson for the South and Central Asian Affairs Bureau and the Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.  She joined the Foreign Service in 2004, and has served in India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Libya, and in Washington. Helaena has been an avid student of South Asian languages and cultures for twenty years. She holds an undergraduate degree in English and Creative Writing from Emory University, and a master’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.  She speaks Hindi, Urdu, and Tamil.
