DAS Akbari
Jameela Raja Akbari serves as a Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Global Talent Management (GTM) at the U.S. Department of State.  In this role she supports the Offices of Performance Evaluation, Retirement, Accessibility and Accommodations (OAA), and the Grievance Staff.  She serves as the Department’s Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer. She has worked at the U.S. Department of State since 2014, first as a Senior Advisor for the Chief Information Officer before leading a new information technology workforce planning unit.  From 2019 to 2023, she led OAA. Jameela began her federal career in 2001 as a Presidential Management Fellow at the Department of Health and Human Services.  She has also worked at the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and did a detail to the Department of Education’s Office of the Deputy Secretary and the Bureau of South and Central Asia in the Department. Jameela holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
