
Jane Rhee's term ended on February 1, 2023.
Jane Rhee serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs. Prior to this appointment, she served as Vice President for Global Public Affairs with The Estée Lauder Companies.
Jane previously served as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State for more than a decade. Her positions as a U.S. diplomat included tours in Kabul, Afghanistan, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as well as in Washington with the Intelligence and Research Bureau, Near Eastern Affairs Bureau, Policy Planning Staff, and the U.S. Senate.
From 2015 to 2017, she served as the Director for Strategic Planning at the National Security Council (NSC) and was responsible for coordinating U.S. Government policies to address long-term national security challenges and for leading an interagency initiative to promote diversity and inclusion for the national security workforce.
From 2012 to 2014, Jane served as the NSC Director for Iranian Affairs, during which she helped coordinate the negotiations that led to a comprehensive agreement to curb Iran’s nuclear program. Jane joined the Department after receiving the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship in 2002. She has a Master’s in Public Affairs from the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and a Bachelor’s in Government from Harvard College.
