John Fitzsimmons

John E. Fitzsimmons's term ended on November 19, 2021.

John Fitzsimmons is a Senior Foreign Service Security Engineering Officer with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security currently serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary and Assistant Director, Countermeasures Directorate. Mr. Fitzsimmons began his career in the Foreign Service in 1988.

Mr. Fitzsimmons most recently served as the Director of the Office of Security Technology, holding the rank of Minister-Counselor, responsible for managing DS’ worldwide Technical Security Program. Previously he has served as the Division Director for Security Technology’s Countermeasures Program and Division Director for Security Technology Operations. Other domestic tours include the Chief for Overseas Support Branch, Security Engineering Services, and Technical Surveillance Countermeasures branches. Mr. Fitzsimmons has served overseas as the Officer-in-Charge of the Engineering Services Center in Athens, Greece and as the Officer-in-Charge of the Engineering Services Offices in Havana, Cuba and Manila, Philippines as well as his first overseas tour in Nairobi, Kenya.

Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr. Fitzsimmons has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology with Math and Physics minors from Minnesota State University, Mankato Minnesota.
