
Karin B. Sullivan's term ended on July 29, 2022.
Karin Sullivan is the Director of Overseas Employment in the Bureau of Global Talent Management and currently serves as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary. Her most recent assignment was as the Deputy Management Counselor for the U.S. Mission in Iraq. Previously, she served as the Deputy Director and Acting Executive Director in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs from 2017-2019 where she was responsible for overseeing the operations of 34 U.S. diplomatic missions from Canada to Argentina as well as WHA domestic operations. Since joining the Foreign Service in 1998, Ms. Sullivan has served in Jamaica, Chile, Colombia, Barbados, Cuba, Washington, and Costa Rica, completing Management tours as a GSO, FMO and Management Officer. While in Washington from 2010-2014, she served as Trade Policy Officer and then Deputy Director for Economic Policy in the Western Hemisphere where she oversaw the administration of millions of dollars in programs related to our free-trade agreements and economic development. While serving in Costa Rica as the Counselor for Management Affairs, she also served as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. She completed a tour as the Senior Advisor in the Office of Mexican Affairs, covering economic and border affairs issues in 2016 and served as the Supervisory Post Management Officer in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs from 2016 to 2017. A graduate of Syracuse University, she is married and has three dogs.
