Katherine Munchmeyer is an American diplomat and senior member of the United States Foreign Service. As an innovative leader in personnel, policy and programs both at embassies overseas and at the Department of State in Washington, DC she seeks to motivate and empower her team to provide their highest quality performance for in support of U.S. national security goals.
Over her 30-year career, Katherine has served in multiple State Department posts overseas. She currently serves as the Minister Counselor for Management for the U.S. Mission to China, advising the Ambassador on all administrative issues and overseeing all support operations for almost 3,000 employees of 17 federal agencies at four locations across China with an operating budget in excess of $200 million. Similarly, she served on the Ambassador’s Country Team in Kyiv, Ukraine during the Maidan Revolution, and in Nicosia, Cyprus, during the evacuation of 16,000 American citizens and legal permanent residents from Lebanon. Domestically Katherine served most recently as Associate Dean for Administration at the Foreign Service Institute’s School of Language Studies, which trains over 1,000 diplomats in over 60 languages annually. She has also served as Chief of Human Resources for the Bureau of European Affairs and International Organizations, and as the Post Management Officer supporting the administrative operations of the embassies in Central Asia following 9/11 and the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.
Katherine received a Masters degree in National Security and Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. She is a recipient of the State Department’s Luther I. Replogle Award for Management Improvement for her work transforming the training platform of the School of Language Studies at the Foreign Service Institute, as well as multiple Performance and Superior Honor Awards. Katherine speaks French, German, Russian, and Polish.
