Lonnie J. Price's term ended on March 1, 2021.
Lonnie Price began serving as the Assistant Director of the Cyber and Technology Security Directorate for the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security when the new directorate was established on May 30, 2017. He was appointed to be the director’s Deputy Assistant Secretary when the position was created on August 30, 2018.
In his role as Assistant Director, Mr. Price oversees planning, policy development, coordination, and implementation of the Department’s technology innovation and cyber security programs. Under his direction are the offices of Cyber Monitoring and Operations, Cyber Threat and Investigations, and Technology Innovation and Engineering.
Mr. Price has successfully led and managed wide-ranging initiatives to enhance the Department’s cybersecurity, technical countermeasures, counterintelligence technology, counterterrorism technology, threat analysis, cyber investigations/forensics, and smart technology (also known as the Internet of Things).
He has provided security support to U.S. embassies in more than 100 countries. He served 17 years abroad, including assignments in Frankfurt, Germany; Moscow, Russia; Canberra, Australia (seconded to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade); Pretoria, South Africa; Cairo, Egypt; and Bangkok, Thailand.
Prior to his work at the Department of State, Mr. Price worked as a computer programmer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) supporting the Space Shuttle program at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Mr. Price holds the rank of Minister Counselor within the U.S. Senior Foreign Service. He has an electrical engineering degree and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
